In the cartoon, President Bush is shown with a basket in hand which is filled with people, marked as the 'U.S. Military' walking into a glowing red light. The image plays on the popular saying "to hell in a handbasket. " Many think that by Bush pouring more troops into Iraq, we are just going further and further to hell. They see Iraq as either a lost cause or one that was never a real issue to begin with. I personally may be affected by his desicion to take the U.S. Military to "hell in a handbasket" because my brother is a US Marine who has recently been deployed to the Mediterranean and Djbouti, Africa. Although not Iraq, orders change many times once overseas, and going to Iraq is most certainly not out of the question. Whether or not the war was necessary to begin with, I do not believe withdrawing all troops would be a feasible plan, and we must get to a point where we can start to gradually pull out. If putting more in for the moment is what is needed, then so be it.
