In this political cartoon two law officials are standing in front of a transparent tank labled Tilikum and containing a large killer whale. One of these men which is a police officer is simply looking at the ditective who is stating the Miranda warning to the Orca with question mark over its head. This scenario depicted in the cartoon symbolizes the brutal behavior that the killer whale at Sea World exhibited which killed his trainer during a performance. Since the death of one of their veteran trainers, Sea World has never been the same. This tragic event has left the aquatic theme park scarred with the memories of the killing of Dawn Brancheau by Tilikum, the main whale of their Shamu show. With this traumatic event has also forced Sea World to close down their Shamu performance not only in Orlando but in San Diego as well. Though very depressing, this event should serve as a lesson to the individuals responsible for getting the animals that are to come in contact with human trainers. With this whale already killing two people prior to his third victim, the animal should not have been taken in the first place since Orcas are already known as dangerous once removed from the wild. Also, more background checks should be done on transfered animals and better training should be provided. Attachments:
