In the image above, we see the Olympic symbol, 5 different colored rings interlinked with three on top and two on the bottom. Each of the rings are dripping, and below them are pools of that color. In the top left corner, we see the words, "THE VANCOUVER GAMES". The dripping rings represent the melting snow due to the warmer weather in Vancouver.
Although the Vancouver Organizing Committee faced many problems and their decisions resulted in numerous outraged citizens, they tried their best to resolve the issues. The unusually warmer weather caused Cypress Mountain, the location of snowboarding and skiing events, to have an insufficient amount snow necessary. Economically, money from Vancouver's taxpayers was spent on man-made snow that had to be imported via truck or helicopter. Downtown Vancouver has a high poverty rate, but all this over-budgeted money is being spent on additional police officers for the Games rather than fixing their own problem. Even though money has to be spent, the Committee went well over the predicted amount necessary, and on top of that, they're bringing in less money than planned. This deficit will result in more money coming from the taxpayers of Vancouver. Looking at this situation from a perspective other than those of Vancouver's taxpayers, the Committee has to do their job, and the choices they made were most logical to them. If the mountain lacked snow, the most efficient way would be to import snow. Of course they could wait for the temperature to drop and let natural snow fall, but no one knows how long that would take, or if enough snow would fall. Though there is poverty in the same area that millions of dollars are being spent on for a certain occasion, the money is being spent for a reason the citizens already knew about. No one hid the fact the 2010 Winter Olympics is being held in Vancouver. Also, since many tourists will be coming in the necessity of additional security should have been foreseen.
