In this cartoon, two people, a very short man and a significantly taller woman, are gazing upon a faded Obama campaign poster which was previously a vivid display of red, white and blue. The woman’s comment, “Hope’s Fading…” fully describes that the zest Obama had entered office with is slowly diminishing since many of his plans are backfiring. These unfortunate events in the Obama cabinet are in turn leaving Obama’s “HOPE” slogan as faded as his banner on the brick wall. The artist uses this cartoon to depict the dwindling public opinion of President Obama, along with the people’s collective feeling of slight betrayal and expressing his own views against Obama’s leadership claiming that the president is failing. I also feel that Obama’s presidency is fading, although it is too early to conclude that he cannot come back from the abyss of deficits which are testing his leadership at the moment. Even so, his previously fast paced and straight forward government style has dramatically slowed down, with his approval ratings falling tremendously since the beginning of this New Year, due to his failure to activate hi plans of health care, removing troops from the Middle East, fixing the economy and other promises.
