Ken Catalino -- National/Syndicated The year of 2009 for several things and people look grim. The economy is struggling which will cause problems for New Years babies, the stock market is going nowhere fast, and the 0-16 Detroit Lions from 2008 will probably have another dissappointing year. All of these indeed can change but that leaves us to wonder, could this be a year of surprises? The man and woman in this cartoon are stating that "This could be the year of surprises." implying that all of these things can change. A baby is always a surprise and in this case with the recession we are going through, it can be an even bigger shock. The Detroit Lions football player holding up a Super Bowl Champs trophy is pretty hilarious because the odds of that happening after having the "imperfect seaon" are slim to none being one of the biggest surprises of them all. Finally, the stock market improving could be a surprise to many after what had happened to it this past year. After crashing in 2008, is there really a chance of it to be fixed up so soon? But then again, that one sentence "This could be a year of surprises" is always lurking in our minds.
