Brian Fairrington, caglecartoons.com 12/2/08 Here in this cartoon we see the oh so loveable Santa Clause. At his side are his hard working elves being put to work. Santa and his elves appear to be standing in a home and repossessing many household items, such as a television and picture frame. Santa and his six elves have also made a mess of the house as they took down the Christmas tree, boxed up all the presents, and removed any other goods they pleased. Santa is quoted saying "Due to the bad economy I dont make toys anymore. I'm in the repo business now." This year we have suffered a great loss in the economy. The United States has hit record lows and millions have been left to suffer. Many have even stressed the thought that we may go through the same tragedy as The Great Depression. The economy has made this holiday season really tough for Americans all across the United States. Families have worried so much about simply paying the bills, that they havent had time to even stop to think about shopping. Where the economy is at this very moment many children will be left to wake up disappointed this Christmas. We need to get a hold of the economy so everyone can get back to living their lives and not stress about bills and how much that next pay check will be.

Christmas is a time for love and compassion and one’s expression while opening his/her presents are priceless. Parents are faced with difficult times this year because they have to be sure that they are able to pay the bills and support the family with the declining economy. However, adults are not the only ones who worry about the economic meltdown and its impact on Christmas. According to Node Research, a youth opinion research company, 84% of Americans 9 to 17 years old are “very to somewhat” worried about the current economic situation, while more than half of all kids and teens suppose that the declining economy will have an impact on the amount of gifts they find under the Christmas tree. It is depressing that a kid’s happiness is controlled by the economy. However, this does not mean that the spirit of Christmas is completely lost. The Christmas tree sales shine, even in the dark economic times. The tree market is flourishing even though downsizing is visible.
