This political cartoon refers to President Bush's recent press conference where someone threw a pair of shoes at him. As a result of the "attack", agents now have to protect Bush from flying shoes. A man, who¡¦s probably associated with the CIA, tells Bush "We believe you'll be safe in the event of any shoe attack in the future." His statement is justified with the two agents standing in the back; one of them is holding a net to catch potential shoes that may hit the president. The man, nevertheless, goes on to say, "Some agents, however, have created wish lists." Instead of holding a net, the other agent in the back is holding up a sign that reads "Nike Size 12". Basically, this means that if the agents are going to catch shoes, might as well get ones they want. :]
When I saw the clip of the infamous "shoe-throwing" conference, I actually laughed out loud. It's really sad that a leader of such a respectable country is getting shoes thrown at him. I found it pretty rude for someone to throw something at the president, but I have to admit, it was hilarious. A typical secret agent's job is to protect the president. One would think that they're trained to be on the lookout for weapons such as bombs, knives, and guns, but apparently not. Shoes are now a threat to the leader of America. Bush accepted Iraq's apology and seemed to look back on the situation with a sense of humor. However, I think the reputation of any president is ruined when someone throws a shoe at you. Frankly, it seems that everyone, including Iraqi reporters, are disappointed at Bush's leadership and have lost respect for him.
On another note, the agent gets props for wanting some Nike's. =]
