David Fitzsimmons,Arizona Daily Star, Tucson AZAs you can see in the cartoon above, the "original" Grinch is shown with a sleigh and his dog Sam. They appear to be on their way to Whoville, as the classic story of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" explains. However, an even larger "Grinch" of recession is shown hovering above the Grinch. The Grinch says, "Dang. I got a big brudder..." showing that he is not the biggest risk to ruining Christmas. Recession has put a large hole in our pockets this year and has caused Christmas to be only but a glint of light in the our dark and troublesome recession. Sam, the dog in the bottom right corner, says "I hear singing." while wagging his tail. This shows the glimmer of hope that Christmas could be "saved" from the recession Grinch. This cartoon says it all. Christmas has been plagued by recession and has caused people to lose hope. Not only has it put a hole in our pockets, it has caused the people to think negatively and forget what Christmas is supposed to be about. It feels like the only way Christmas is "officially" Christmas, is if kids wake up with a truck load of presents under the tree that range from brand new iPods to plasma screen T.V's. As long as this recession persists, the people of America are going to continue to revolve their life around money issues and negativity. The glimmer of hope that we have now may diminish sooner than we think.

It is pretty sad how bad our economy has gotten. I really liked this political cartoon because it shows how bad our economy is as "recession is taking away Christmas." I agree with your opinion on how "It put a hole in our pockets, as it has caused the people to think negatively and forget what Christmas is supposed to be about." The little glimmer of hope that you said we have will hopefully not disappear and our economy will once again grow. but by the looks of it, it may take a while. In your response though, you could've explained more about the reccesion and how it is going to "take away christmas" rather than having the grinch "take away Chirstmas. With alittle more insight, you could make your analysis alittle stronger. Otherwise good job. =]

Its sad to think how many children will wake up to a rather upsetting display of gifts this Christmas. Parents have been so focused on paying the bills that the thought of shopping hasent even crossed their minds. I really enjoyed reading your analysis of this cartoon. One line that caught my eye and made me agree with your opinion was "Christmas has been plagued by recession and has caused people to lose hope." The only thing that could have been better was your analysis on the recession and the effects of it today. (:
