Manny Aenlle Francisco, The Manila Times, Manila, The Philippines, 12/12/08 The cartoon above shows six men surrounding George bush. They are all dresses up in black suits and have dark glasses and ear pieces in their ears. The men are protecting the president from a shoe that appears on the floor. The guy in front says, "...I repeat, we were assulted by a W.M.H.! W.M.H.! weapon of mass humiliation!!!" Everyone knows by now that George W. Bush was humiliated when an Iraqi reporter threw his boots at the president of the United States. This is not something that should be tolerated, but considering it was Bush, thousands of people applaud the reporter. Even though the shoe didn't actually hit Bush, there has been controversy as to whether or not the reporter should be punished to the maximum extent. I think that he should be punished, but it will not actually be teaching him a lesson. When he goes to jail in Iraq for attempting to hit the president with his shoe he will be treated like a hero. There really is no reason for him to go to jail in Iraq if he is not going to regret his actions. Muntadhar al-Zaiydi is not only a hero to Iraqi people, but to some Americans too .

I agree that the reporter probably will not be changed even with a deserved punishment like prison. Though many hate Bush, that is not what I want to disagree on. For the Iraqis to openly insult Americans when we allow them to have democracy and our troops die for them and us is what sickens me. One can say the Iraqis need to take charge and the U.S. needs to leave, but that does not condone them to disrespect America- who is represented by our President. It could have been Obama there being attacked because he is American.
