Jim Day, The Las Vegas Review Journal, Nevada This cartoon is relating to Christmas coming up and the recession that is going on. The picture has bent, beat up looking, Christmas tree. The only ornaments decoratiing the tree are a chain of bulbs that have the letters spelling out RECESSION on them. This is all because of how so many people are having problems or are going to have problems this holiday season because of the recession. It is gonna be a lot harder for people to go on the yearly vacations and get everybody those expensive presents that they get every year. I fully understand where this cartoon is coming from because my family suffers from the recession just like most families and I have already gotten the speech that Christmas is gonna be tougher this year. I also know a lot of families that are having problems as well because of job lay offs and other such things. I can't imagine how hard it is going to be for them for them to get the normal amount of gifts that they get for their families.

Description: 10 Thorough Interpretation: 8 Fair, but please leave "gonna" out of your written lexicon Knowledge of Topic: 8 Understanding seems basic Argument: 8 Fair, though a bit underelaborated and no specific evidence is apparent, just vague allusions to struggles Reply to Classmate: 8 Good; could have used a bit more development.
