Ken Catalino -- National/Syndicated 12/3/08 In this cartoon you see a woman who has been overwhelmed with the shopping scene and collapsed onto the mall floor. With a hand to her face and her mouth agape the woman lays on the floor surrounded by shopping bags. It appears she is on her phone saying “Hello, 911? I’ve been malled!!!” In the background you see many fellow shoppers. The names of the stores on the second floor caught my eye titled “Junk, More Junk, Junk USA, Junk you don’t need,” and “Junk World.” The shopping scene at malls is getting worse with each year. People are continuously waking up before the sun, to stand outside malls for hours, and stampede through the doors all at once. This year as a Wal-Mart opened in New York a shopping frenzy led to the death of an employee as well as the death of a young pregnant woman’s baby. People take these mega sales so seriously that they don’t even pay attention to savage reactions. I like this cartoon because it shows the stress of the shopping scene. The fact that they even titled the stores using the word junk also shows that many go out of their way to shop for useless items.

I agree ! The day after Thanksgiving the madness begins. People want to shop until they drop--literally. The man who was killed after being stomped on by people thirsting to get great sale prices was simply doing his job, and now he is dead because of those careless people. If they weren't so self centered maybe one of them would have noticed him dying on the floor. Lets face it, shopping isn't so important that you have to kill to get into the doors of a Wal-mart! It makes you wonder how out of hand it will get next year at this time.
