Patrick O'Connor, the Los Angeles Daily News,12/5/08The image above shows an airplane about to collide with the Taj Mahal . The plane has the word "TERROR" written on it and the Taj Mahal has "India" on it. This cartoon was inspired by the dozen or so terrorist attacks that occurred in India's biggest cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore and Guwahati. Terrorist targeted high populated destinations and tourist attractions such as the most famous landmarks in the city, Oberoi and Taj Hotel. Both were taken under siege; and occupants held hostage. This specific cartoon seems to be comparing the attacks on Mumbai to the terrorists attack on 9/11, where terrorists hijacked two American airplanes and crashed them into the Twin Towers. The comparison was made between the two to show that both attacks have equal significance. Both Mumbai and the 9/11 attacks consist of terrorist reeking havoc on innocent civilians. The message is clear; terrorism is everywhere, it might be planned out differently or take place in another country, but it is the same.
