Eric Allie, Chicago, 12/2/08 In this cartoon the first frame shows two girls shopping for Christmas in October. THey begin by talking about how Christmas starts too early. In the second and third frame the two girls start mentioning all the negatives about Christmas. They mention things such as Christmas shoppers and Christmas shopping, Christmas carols getting old by November, and Christmas decorations being put up too early. As each frame progresses the two grils transform from normal looking girls to the Grinch and the Scrooge; the two characters that hate Christmas. This cartoon depicts how Christmas shopping starts earlier and earlier every year and it takes away from the true meaning of Christmas. By Christmas shopping starting earlier people become annoyed by seeing Christmas around every coner for two months. They become sick of it and then no longer enjoy the true spirit of Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas is not presents, shopping, or material things. The true meaning of Christmas is love, peace, and spending time with Family. Above all, it's the celebration of the birth of Christ. It is possible to have too much of a good thing.

Great work, Tessa, analyzing the cartoon. Great work with the argument (aside from the first sentence of the second paragraph, which lapsed into an analysis of the cartoon) particularly effective when you used the anaphora of "the true meaning of christmas...".
