This political cartoon satirized how America is Obama’s inheritance for becoming president, but is nothing more than a “mess.” In the top cartoon, there is a duck standing on top of a bag that says “deficit” on it. A budget deficit occurs when a government spends more money than it takes in, which is what the United States of America has done under President Bush’s authority. The duck standing on top of the bag only adds to the satirizing of “Obama’s Inheritance." In the second picture, there is a bottle that says in bold “Bush Red Ink.” The red ink that has spilled was drawn to look like the U.S.A. Then you can see Obama telling Joe Biden that “its time to clean up this mess.” The “mess” is referred to America’s state right now, because of all the issues facing us.
This cartoon did a really good job is making fun of or mocking what Obama has gained by becoming president of America. The “mess” included all the issues facing our country today like the economic downfall – caused by budget deficit. When Obama became president, he promised to “clean up” our Country, to improve it, and help it grow. This cartoon shows how he can start by “cleaning up” Bush’s “mess”, or “spill.” The $700 billion bailout was put forward to engender confidence within the system. This fall has occurred due to greed, lack of government regulation, and the crisis of overproduction. This cartoon shows how he has a lot to do to as President. As you can see, there is a lot that needs to be done, and the best thing to do is just keep patience and keep together as one nation. This cartoon was very creative as the ink formed the U.S. The cartoon appeal to logos, as it explained to us that we must clean up the mess from before, to actually have a brighter and better future for the United States of America. All we can hope is that Obama doesn’t quit on us, and “cleans up this mess.”
