In this political cartoon, you notice a big red truck marked "Ho Ho Ho!!! XMAS SALES up to 70% off". You also see a little turkey in front of the truck saying "give thanks", while the truck driver is yelling at the turkey to get out of the way. More and more each year it feels like Christmas is being commercialized. Still having a month to go before x-mas gets here, stores are already putting Christmas ornaments and putting Christmas trees out for sale. Thanksgiving is out even here yet but everyone is already focusing on Christmas. The poor little turkey is being ignored and ran over. K-mart started to put Christmas things on sales and gave people an option to put things on layaway on October. Thats two months before Christmas. Now the month that we are supposed to be concentrating on giving thanks and eating turkey, people are focusing on the gifts they should buy for others and thinking about the gifts they want in return.

Between the big commotion of Halloween and Christmas, Thanksgiving seems to be left forgotten. Halloween is displayed in every single store and right after that they put up fall decorations, and as soon as you turn around Christmas decorations are shown. Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday filled with thanks but each year its overlooked. I like how you mentioned that certain stores were already giving the option of layaway. Its also very true when you said “people are focusing on the gifts they should buy for others,” many people look forward to the major sales and shopping of this time of year instead of Thanksgiving.

I agree with you and Margaret about people over looking the holidays that don't concern buying presents like Chrtistmas. The true meaning behing the holidays should be what matter most, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are equally important because they both are a time to be happy, rejoice, and be with family and friends. Giving presents is over rated and the true meaning of the holiday is lost with materialistic things.

Good work, Ruth, creating an argument in response to the topic raised by the cartoon. You did not fully analyze the cartoon, as you did not explain the cartoonist's purpose.
Good reply to a classmate. Pet peeve error in reply (affect vs. effect).
