The cartoon above shows President elect Barrack Obama walking alongside President George W. Bush. Barack is pointing at a sign around his neck that has "White House Press Pass B. Obama 2008" written across it while Barack says "This? Oh, the media gave it to me a while ago." George W. Bush says with a dubious expression "Good Luck Keeping..."
It is no secret that during Senator Barrack Obama's run for the White House the media favored him over John McCain. The reason for Bush's doubtful attitude is due from the roller coaster with approval ratings that he has experienced from the start of his presidency to the present. When George W. Bush was first elected President of these United States in August 2001 his approval rating were roughly 93%. The latest polls now shows that Bush's approval ratings are 23%. Over the course of eight years Bush managed to drop 70% of his approval so I can see why the cartoon Bush would not be too impressed by Barack Obama's sign. The illustrator's argument is that the media is fickle as well as the citizens of the United States. I noticed that George Bush's approval ratings depended on the decisions that Bush made. For example, when he sent troops to Afghanistan in October 2001 his approval ratings shot to 93% because Americans were angered by the events of September 11. His approval ratings dropped, however, when there was no improvement throughout the months that followed. So, I agree with this agrument; both the media is and Americans are fickle. Every movement that the President makes is under extreme scrutiny. If the president makes one mistake the media turns on him.
