Rainer Hachfeld, Berlin, Germany, Neues Deutschland 11/6/08 In this photo we can clearly see the competitiveness of the two Presidential candidates. On the right we have John McCain who is saying "I'm first" which can be interpreted as him believing he will be the the winner. Having being said Barrack Obama being the weakest of the two canidates least likely to win this election at the beginning, is now the one stampeding all of John McCain. McCain seems to be in a great deal of pain and short breath, this can be because of his old age. The cartoon says it all, many fellow Americans believed that McCain would win due to the over analyzation and fear of having a "colored" President. Much to the worlds surprise McCain the Repblican did not win instead Obama the Democrat won and made history while doing so. I find it funny though that McCain thought he would actually prevail over Obama. During the whole duration of the campaign Obama's slogan was WE NEED CHANGE where as McCain's slogan was lost due to all his cruel statements and bullying he caused Obama.

In the political cartoon, Obama is ahead of McCain but not by too far a margin. To me, it symbolizes the close race the two candidates shared. Obama was barely ahead in the polls nearing the final days of the campaign; it looked like the election could have gone either way. But, as you said, McCain is depicted as out of breath and tired. This may be referring to his old age, but, to me, it represented the type of race both McCain and Obama ran. McCain was always drawing out these attacks and all of his ads were negative; hardly ever were they promoting the message of what McCain himself would do as President. It must be tiring having to think up new ways to tear down one's opponent. Obama, however, played it cool the entire time. He never once got all worked up over anything McCain said. Take the final debate as an example. McCain was struggling to keep cool and he looked as if he were about to scream! He was so aggravated and angry the whole time. Obama just laughed at the ridiculous comments McCain said and kept a clear and level head. The depiction above doesn't show Obama out of breath or hurried like it does McCain. The President-Elect is cool and relaxed. And that's how he acted throughout his campaign.

This cartoon is really humorous and kind of realistic in a way. Most people in the beginning did indeed think that McCain was going to win, then suddenly, Obama sprang out in front. It mocks McCain's old age by showing him running out of energy and gasping for air towards the finish line. The fact that he still thinks he is in "First" is a humorous aspect of the cartoon as well.

Good work, Maxcell. Argument could have used a bit more elaboration. Pet peeve error in response to classmate (that vs. who).
