In this cartoon a woman has just recently completed filling out her voting ballot for the 2008 presidential elections. As she walks up to turn it in, she asks the people if they can please count her vote right in front of her. The author’s purpose in having the woman ask this question was to mock the deception and corruption in politics. In the 2000 presidential elections between Al Gore and George W. Bush, over twenty thousands votes were not counted due to unknown reasons. In this cartoon, the woman would like to ensure that her vote is counted.
Many people would agree with the author of this cartoon, I know my mother would. The day of elections my mom and I got up early to go vote, and when she finished filling out her ballot, she went to go scan it through the computer machine that counts the vote. After she was completed with putting her ballot through the machine, the screen read “Thank You for Voting.” Then my mom had a confused look on her face and asked, “That’s it?”
Sarcastically I said, “Yeah, What do you want it to say? Thank you so much Andrea McDermott for voting! Please don’t let the door hit you on your way out.” (I’m very miserable in the morning).
She replied, “No, smart ass. I want the screen to say who I voted for.” Then my mom got aggravated and began complaining to the people who were helping out with voting because she said that she wanted to guarantee that her vote was counted.
