Tab (Thomas Boldt), The Calgary Sun, Alberta, Canada In this picture we see Barack Obama climbing atop "History" with his hand out stretched to who appears to be Martin Luther King Jr., duly noted by the MLK tag on his suit. In King's hand is a newspaper titled "I Have a Dream", dated August 28, 1963. This political cartoon recognizes the fact that Barack Obama has truly made history by becoming the first projected African American president of the United States of America. The cartoon portrays how far African Americans have come since the days of Martin Luther King Jr. To think, 45 years ago MLK Jr. stood before thousands of people in front of the Lincoln Memorial describing his dream of better tomorrow, and of a better America, in which race and prejudice were no longer an issue, and now here we are just months away from doing what so many never thought possible. Obama has not only climbed the steps of history, but he also made it possible for others to know that they to can make, history, and all they have to do is try.

Good reply to classmate. Remember your first paragraph should analyze and explain the cartoon. Your second should construct an argument related to the topic discussed in the cartoon. You should not analyze the cartoon in the second paragraph.
