Cameron (Cam) Cardow, Canada In this cartoon, one can see Barack Obama being sworn into office, but not only is Obama in this picture, but so is John McCain. In the picture, McCain says "Hey! Would it be too much to ask you to wait for the results?" McCain is saying this because people thought that Obama was going to win hands down, even McCain himself knew. He just wanted people to have the courtesy to wait so it was not as embarassing. Something else that is important to notice in this cartoon, is the fact that McCain appears very small and Obama appears very tall, it makes it seem as if Obama is superior to McCain. This cartoon was funny and also completely accurate. It is like MCain knew that he was going to lose, but he just did not want to believe it. He just wanted to wait for all the votes to be counted so he would not be as embarrased. The majority of this nation voted for Barack Obama, and Obama knew this too, this is why he was so confident. It was better that McCain expected the loss, this way it was not as difficult for him to accept it.

I agree with your take on this cartoon. After Obama began to be in the lead, it was definitely expected that he would win. On NBC news, a reporter showed the projection of the electoral votes on the electoral map and, based on the presumptions of the states that McCain and Obama would win, Obama was the projected winner of the entire election. For the sake of seeing the severity of "landslide" by which Obama won, the reporter showed what would happen if McCain won the remainder of the electoral votes of the states and he was still "short" by 4 electoral votes. So it definitely was expected that Obama would win. It is customary to wait for the end of the election to announce the winner, but close to the end of the counting, it was clear that Obama would win and McCain was just glad that it was completed in a "fair and square" fashion. The only thing I disagree with you on is the idea that McCain was embarrassed, dissapointed yes, but not embarrassed.

Good work, Sarah. Your second paragraph does not contain much of an argument in response to the topic of the cartoon.
