The cartoon shows people laboring to prepare the stage for the Vice Presidential Debate that took place on October 1. The sign is up, Sen Biden's podium has also been erected, so has Gov Palin's, however hers is being modified with wheels. The box next to the podium is labeled "training wheels" obviously ridiculing Sarah Palin's lack of experience in debates and other such meetings that other political affiliates take part in.
Sarah Palin is only a governor. Being at this level of government, she has never participated in an important debate such as the Vice Presidential debate. However, Thursday night Gov Palin seemed as if she didn't need the training wheels. She clearly didn't win the debate, but she did manage to not make herself seem like that much of a fool. The expectations set for Palin were seemingly so low that as long as she didn't make an outright impropriety that she would meet these expectations. Nevertheless, she still managed to make it to some of the late night skits on Friday.
