This year’s presidential election is going mark a significant point in history no matter which way the election results. The guy in the cartoon is labeled as “history” as he says, “America’s first black president or America’s first female vice president, either way, I’m going to be quite busy…” This remark showed the importance of this year’s election as we will either have a black president, or our first female vice president. For years, neither position has been filled by either class. Whether the election turns in favor for the Republican Party or the Democrats, history will be made.
With the diverse candidates running in this election, we see that most of the votes this year will be based on each race. Women will prefer voting for Palin as vice president, as the black race will prefer to vote for Barrak Obama. Sarah Palin’s advent in this election has immensely helped McCain and his campaign. Results show that since Palin was chosen by McCain to run as vice president, his votes began to increase. The article on this website, elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/29/mccain-to-name-running-mate-on-friday/, shows the importance of Palin in this election for women votes. Before when Hilary Clinton was running for president, women mainly had their votes for her, but once she was taken out of this election, McCain and Palin received many of her supporters because of the one fact that Palin is a “woman.” Being a woman is not the only factor many people should base their votes on, because according to the speeches made by both Obama and McCain, Obama seems like the stronger leader. He engaged his audience with appeals to ethos, logos, and pathos in a productive manner to acknowledge the problems facing America. He provided a fine argument supported by facts. McCain’s speech was far less persuading, yet many people’s decisions will be mainly based on the race they support. Both candidates are going to make a major spot in history because this will be a “first” in America. It’s now up to the Americans to decide which path will be a better turning point in America’s history.
