In this cartoon President George W. Bush is playing golf saying “Fore,” while the houses behind him go into foreclosure. By drawing this cartoon the author is making his argument that George W. Bush is not doing anything beneficial for the American economy. Margulies believes that while people are going into debt and no longer being able to afford their homes, the president is ignoring these problems and going about his own business. The author is partially correct. My reason for saying this is because Bush recently passed a bill that will help people keep their homes. So it’s not like he’s just sitting around not doing anything; by passing that bill it shows that he does have some interest in solving America’s foreclosure problem. It is true that the president should have done something earlier to help solve this problem but it’s better late than never. Jimmy Margulies, The Record, 9/25/2008

I agree with the analysis because it depicts how yet again Bush has turned a blind eye to the crises that are taking place in this country. It often appears that while our problems, the ones that need to be handled by our government that is, seem to go untouched or unseen. It also appears that while our country goes through devastation after devastation, President Bush just seems to sit back idly twiddling his thumbs. However, although I am pleased to hear about the bill that President Bush has recently passed that will help people to keep their homes, is late really better than never? What about all those families and people who have already lost their homes due to foreclosure. I’m sure they wish that bill would have been passed along time ago. History has shown that change mostly comes from numerous complaints and struggle.

Nice work, Ashanda, with critical thought clear. You found the gray areas in the debate.
