In this cartoon diplomas and resumes are dangling on fishing hooks and a fish is swimming through all the forms. The fish represents limited jobs and the diplomas and resumes on hooks represents "fishing for jobs." There is one fish that has to choose between a bunch of diplomas and resumes. The cartoon demonstrates how rediculously hard it is to get a decent job with all of the competition. For instance the unemployment rate for phychology is very high becacuse so many people want to get into that field for a career, but there are so many disappointed people in the end that are jobless for a long time. Or at least until there are some openings.

This cartoon describes it perfectly, how hard it is to find a job right now. I have been looking for a job for months and I am unable to find one because all of the competition. It is ridiculous how there are so many jobs out in the world but a lot of people can't even find one because of the lack of people that want to spend money or have the money to spend.

You’re absolutely right. The economy sucks right now and trying to find a job is like trying to solve a Gordian knot. I’m not completely sure, but in this cartoon the author might have been mocking the famous saying, “There’s plenty of fish in the sea.” I’ve been led to this assumption because the fish represents limited jobs and that definitely conflicts with the word “plenty” in the famous saying. Another thing is, over 80 percent of fish travel in schools, so there’s a high possibility that the author was using symbolism with only having one “job opportunity fish” to show her point as opposed to having hundreds of them.

Good work, Tessa. In the future, I would rather see one quality response to a classmate than 2 or 3 less quality responses. You could have elaborated your argument a bit more.
