Adam Zyglis, The Buffalo News, 9/18/08 This cartoon depicts George W Bush and one of his agents standing upon copious amounts of rubble and wreckage. Casually dressed and megaphone in hand, President Bush seems to be speaking to the people of Galveston, Texas as if he was on a relief mission. Galveston was recently hit by a category two storm, Hurricane Ike. The storm destroyed the town almost in its entirety. Bush's agent then informs Bush that he isn't on a relief mission, however he is on Wall Street. This is because on Tuesday the Stock Market almost suffered a fatal blow due to our economy. I believe that this cartoon is an accurate view where George Bush puts America's economy on his list of to-do's. Being casually dressed shows that Bush doesn't seem to realize the importance and significance of the situation. Alluding Wall Street to Galveston just shows how devastating a blow Wall Street suffered. If the stock market did crash almost all of middle class America would be unemployed, the economy would be ruined, and we would ultimately plummet into another Great Depression like that we did in the mid-twentieth century.
